Tailwheel Flight Instruction
—— Start Your Journey into Low & Slow Flight
Why Train With Us
At Jersey Tailwheels, tailwheel training isn't just something we offer—it's all we do. Our entire focus is on helping pilots build real stick-and-rudder skills, whether you're new to taildraggers or getting back in the saddle after years away. Unlike larger schools where tailwheel instruction is an afterthought, we specialize in it—training designed around the unique demands and rewards of tailwheel flying.
We operate out of Bucks Airport, a quiet grass strip surrounded by the farmlands of southern New Jersey. It's the perfect setting for tailwheel instruction—no long taxi lines, no distractions, just you, the airplane, and the fundamentals. From short-field operations to 3-point and crosswind wheel-landing techniques, this is the kind of environment where tailwheel flying truly comes alive. If you're serious about mastering the craft, you won't find a better place to start.
The Sky is the Limit
Your journey doesn't have to end with a tailwheel endorsement. Our owner and lead instructor is an accomplished airshow performer who brings the same precision and energy from the aerobatic box to every lesson. For pilots ready to take the next step, we offer advanced training—from Pitts aircraft checkouts to introductory and advanced aerobatics. Whether you're chasing your first perfect wheel landing or learning to loop and roll with confidence, Jersey Tailwheels can take you from zero to hero.
Scenic Southern New Jersey
Flying around South Jersey offers a unique and beautiful view of the region's diverse landscape. From the air, you'll see a patchwork of farmland stretching across the coastal plain, dotted with small towns, winding creeks, and historic sites. One popular highlight is Bivalve, once a bustling oyster shipping port, where the Maurice River meets the bay. Its working waterfront and preserved structures tell the story of South Jersey's maritime heritage—and it's even more striking from above.
Further south, flights often trace the shoreline down to Cape May, offering breathtaking views of the Delaware Bay meeting the Atlantic. The iconic Cape May Lighthouse stands watch over the tip of New Jersey, surrounded by beaches, wetlands, and barrier islands. On clear days, you might spot dolphins in the surf or catch the sun glinting off miles of shoreline. It's a serene, unforgettable flying experience that showcases a side of New Jersey many never get to see.
Meet the CFI
"I've been around airplanes my whole life—aviation runs in the family. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to fly everything from corporate jets to antique taildraggers and high-performance aerobatic aircraft. What I've come to enjoy most, though, is sharing that experience with others. Teaching tailwheel is a particular passion of mine—it's where true stick-and-rudder flying lives. When I'm not instructing, you'll usually find me upside down in the Pitts or spending time with my wife and daughter. But there's nothing more rewarding than helping a new pilot unlock the joy and challenge of flying a tailwheel airplane with confidence."
